About
I'm an AI builder in Singapore, drawn to meaningful, difficult problems, especially helping people learn and feel more confident about the future. After nearly a decade in government and roles at early- and growth-stage startups, including as COO, that's what I build toward.
I learn by building, and the problems I keep coming back to are how people learn and how they face an uncertain future. BreakBuddy helps people plan a career break with a clear head. Extraudinary lets people rehearse high-stakes conversations until they feel ready. My training work helps teams learn AI and use it with confidence.
These are the products that are live now:
Much of my current work is with agents: running personal and company agents, evaluating them, and designing products where an agent does the heavy lifting. My open-source work is on GitHub.
My immediate goal is to build fluency in collecting and working with EEG data. I'm working on Track 1 (EEG-to-image decoding) of the EEG/EMG Foundation Challenge 2026, part of the Brain and Body Workshop at NeurIPS, post-training models on public EEG datasets to identify which image a person is viewing from a single EEG recording.
Separately, I'm assembling a DIY EEG device, with an Emotiv headset to follow, so I can collect my own data. The longer-term hope is to understand learning better and improve how people learn.
The fastest way to understand a new technology is to use it to solve a real problem. Not a tutorial, not a proof of concept: something with users, constraints, and a chance of failing.
Most of my projects start with a simple question: "Would this actually be useful?" From there I build, test, observe, and iterate. The goal is rarely to chase the latest technology. It's to understand where a technology creates enough value that people will change their behaviour.
My career has taken me through government, startups, and now building with AI.
I run hands-on workshops for government and enterprise teams in Singapore on applied AI, AI agents, low-code development, and first-principles problem solving. See Training & Workshops.
I write about building with AI and agents on In Search of Magic, my Substack. Selected posts are on the blog.
There are several people named Alex Teo in Singapore. I'm the one who builds AI products and agents and runs this site. I'm not the Siemens executive, the NUH orthopaedic surgeon, or the co-founder of Base Genesis.
